Nonfiction WWII Novel "Ride to Hell"
Yes! There were five Nazi concentration camps
in Holland (the Netherlands).
This 220,000-word nonfiction novel is a little
known side-show of WWII - the German
occupation of Holland. Sadistic games, food
depravation, relentless beatings, and other
atrocities were the order of the day in Kamp
Erika. A mess of love and betrayal caught Gerard
Nieland off guard and cost him everything close
to his heart. Who betrayed Gerard Nieland?
This riveting true story novel was written
by Lucas Visser using his father’s last name.
Design
Design and layout focussed on combining some
of the German hallmarks in symbol and type font.
The swastika and the capital letters, set in
Fraktur, were used in Germany until the 1940s.
The Helvetica font, popularized by the Bauhaus,
for the novel’s body text created a touch of
Germany during a period Nazis were in charge.
Each chapter begins with a design integration
of the swastika and the heart, signifying love
and hate as the story’s characters play their part.
Images
Photographic references are presented, They
show Nazi atrocities and tenacity in action
that underscores the horror of the mayhem
in occupied Holland. All images reflect reality
and represent actual events.
